At Aeroklub Zbraslavice you’ll also find experts in repacking rescue parachutes. The period for professional repacking is usually 365 days.
Who can pack parachutes? According to regulations, it’s a person who packs parachute assemblies defined by valid standards (TSO, SAE, ČOS) as parachute assemblies for emergency use (hereafter “parachute assemblies”). A parachute packer may only pack the types of parachute assemblies listed in their license. Packing includes assembling the parachute equipment, checking technical condition, verifying correct packing during the process, sealing the parachute assembly, and recording the packing in the technical logbook.
Parachutes of all types are packed strictly according to technical descriptions and manufacturer recommendations. If a parachute is to be used for a different type of jump than it was packed for, it must be completely unpacked, assembled, adjusted for the appropriate type of jump, and repacked.
Reserve parachutes may only be packed by holders of BP, TP, or STP authorization within the scope of their authorization in accordance with section 2.1.15 of regulation V-PARA-1. All reserve parachutes must be sealed immediately after packing by a person authorized to do so under this regulation. Sealing must be done so that it doesn’t restrict activation while preventing any tampering without breaking the seal.
The paper (cardboard) seal must state the date when the packing expires and the packer’s license number. The lead seal must show the packer’s license number. If a sealed parachute’s seal is found broken before use, the parachute must be completely unpacked and repacked and resealed according to the above conditions.
The service life of a reserve parachute and harness with container is specified by the technical description. If the technical description gives this service life without limitation, the service life in the Czech Republic is set at a maximum of 20 years.
Conditions for maintaining authorization:
- Complete periodic re-examination every 24 months with the parachute manufacturer or STP
- Pack a minimum of 20 parachute assemblies per year (for rescue pilot parachute assemblies, minimum 10)
