Aeroklub Zbraslavice Flight School provides basic glider pilot training to obtain an internationally valid license. For training we use the well-known and proven Let L-23 Super Blaník or G-103 Twin Astir gliders.

Flying a glider will bring you experiences you’ve never known before, even for those who have flown before. Absolute freedom of movement and silent flight in thermal currents alongside birds of prey is an experience for everyone.

The price range from 40,000 CZK is currently the cheapest option for obtaining pilot authorization. However, you don’t need to have the full amount at the start of training; the funds are “flown through” gradually. The final price always depends on your skill and time availability (for example, frequent training breaks extend it).

We conduct training using the Aero-tow syllabus, meaning all glider launches are behind a tow aircraft. This type of training is significantly more time-efficient than the previously common universal syllabus containing mostly winch launches.

Training duration depends on suitable weather and your activity. Under ideal conditions, training can be completed in approximately 4-6 months, however… with intensive training, the first solo flight can be achieved within 14 days of starting training. Everything depends on you, arrangements with instructors, and your activity.

Requirements

  • No minimum age to start training, but from experience we recommend minimum age 14. Further age limits are 14 for first solo flights, 16 for practical exam and obtaining pilot license.
  • Class 2 medical certificate, required from first solo flights
  • Radiotelephone operator’s certificate, required from first solo flights

Frequently Asked Questions

When does training start? In which months does it take place? Theoretical preparation takes place during February and March (typically two weekends). Flying begins depending on weather around the turn of March and April. Weather suitable for training typically ends in October.

Is it necessary to have complete finances before starting training? No, it’s not necessary. Students pay for flying as they go. However, at the start of training you need at least 8,000 CZK for the first several launches with an instructor.

What does a fresh license allow me to do, and how can I continue improving? After obtaining your license you’ll be able to fly in the vicinity of the airport and train on other glider types. You’ll automatically continue with continuing and then sport training, and further improve your piloting and flight tactics. There are several paths, which we cover in detail on this page: Continuing and Sport Glider Training.
