Zbraslavice Public Domestic Airport is one of the oldest airports in the Czech Republic. Its operation began in 1935, and the airport’s founding was somewhat by chance.

Due to deteriorating weather conditions on October 31, 1931, a Czechoslovak State Airlines transport aircraft, Avia F.Vllb/3m registration OK-AFB, made an emergency landing near Zbraslavice in fields by Poupil hill.

At that time, ČSA representatives in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works (MVP) were addressing the issue of auxiliary airports on the route across the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. In 1932, the MVP commission issued a decision to build a backup airport near Zbraslavice. Construction began, and 3 years later Zbraslavice Airport opened.

Before World War II, airport operations were occasional. Frequent visitors included aircraft from Baťa’s aviation department, which maintained connections between Zlín and the branch in Zruč nad Sázavou. Sport aircraft also stopped here during races or circuit flights.

During the occupation, the airport area continued to be managed by the successor office of MVP with Czech personnel, but the operators were Luftwaffe military flight schools. For them, Zbraslavice represented an auxiliary working airfield.

After liberation, a presidential decree from October 27, 1945, No. 12456, confirmed ownership rights of Zbraslavice Airport for the Czechoslovak state. Activities gradually resumed at the airport, and in August 1945 Aeroklub Zbraslavice was founded, operating the airport within the state organization SVAZARM.

The modern era of development began in 1992, when Aeroklub Zbraslavice became a civic association providing training and sport aviation activities, as well as owner and operator of the airport.

Currently, Aeroklub Zbraslavice is among the largest aeroclubs in the Czech Republic with its own airport, modern facilities, and its own fleet of aircraft and gliders. We operate our own flight school with the highest qualification CZ/ATO-012; in 2019 our own maintenance center began operations. Each year, the ranks of Aeroklub Zbraslavice grow with new enthusiasts of sport aviation, predominantly from the younger generation, and we’re proud to be a significant center primarily for non-powered aviation.
